Job Description
The scope of this consultancy relates to IOM’s MPI Division’s protection monitoring and research activities. IOM contributes to evidence-based protection advocacy through protection monitoring. Protection monitoring is carried out to identify protection risks and the protection needs of affected populations, to support evidence-based programming and advocacy. Research is conducted using a mixed-methods approach and informs advocacy with key stakeholders, including government, development actors, and donor communities. The consultant contributes to this work by supporting the production of protection monitoring reports and any other protection monitoring products and activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the production of protection monitoring outputs, including contributing to the development of data collection tools; conducting desk review and qualitative and quantitative analysis; and providing proofreading, copyediting, and referencing support.
- Contribute to protection research and analysis on thematic areas such as environmental migration, gender-based violence, disability and inclusion, protracted displacement, and return and reintegration, including literature review and data analysis.
- Assist in drafting analytical products and key advocacy messages based on monitoring and research findings.
- Support knowledge-sharing and knowledge-management products, including reports, policy briefs, audiovisual materials, and interactive dashboards.
- Participate in internal coordination meetings related to protection monitoring, research, and advocacy activities.
- Undertake other tasks related to protection monitoring, research, and advocacy, as required.

Qualifications
Education, Experience and/or skills required
- Master’s Degree in Forced Migration, Humanitarian Action, Human Rights, or related discipline
- Minimum two years of experience in research, data analysis, protection monitoring, and/or advocacy within humanitarian or development settings
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing data collection tools and methodologies, including surveys and interview guides
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel for data cleaning, analysis, and visualization; experience with other analytical software (e.g., R, Stata, Python) is an asset
- Demonstrated qualitative analysis skills, including coding and thematic analysis; familiarity with NVivo or similar software is an added advantage
- Proven ability to produce high-quality analytical outputs, including concise reports, briefs, and presentations tailored to technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of protection risks and vulnerabilities affecting displaced and returnee populations, preferably in Iraq or comparable crisis-affected or development contexts
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in remote or hybrid working environments, with supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging technical and non-technical counterparts
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is an advantage
