Job Summary / Role
The Plant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing all technical, production, engineering, and operational activities within a rigid and flexible manufacturing plant. The role ensures optimal plant performance, drives technical excellence, leads continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures production efficiency, quality, safety, and cost effectiveness across all operations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the Technical Deputy General Manager in overall plant strategy and execution.
- Oversee production, engineering, maintenance, and QC department.
- Ensure smooth operation of rigid and flexible manufacturing lines.
- Resolve complex technical and operational issues.
- Ensure production targets are achieved in terms of volume, quality, and timeline.
- Optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor KPIs such as OEE, scrap rate, downtime, and yield.
- Lead process optimization and industrial engineering initiatives.
- Improve machine performance and reduce operational losses.
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Ensure all products meet internal and customer quality standards.
- Work closely with QA/QC teams to resolve defects and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain compliance with ISO and other relevant standards.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Ensure high equipment reliability and minimal downtime.
- Approve maintenance strategies and major repair decisions.
- Enforce safety standards across all plant operations.
- Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations.
- Lead investigations for incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Support budgeting and cost control initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and operational costs.
- Improve energy and material efficiency.
- Coordinate with procurement, planning, and logistics teams.
- Ensure availability of raw materials and production continuity.
- Support production planning and inventory optimization.
- Lead and mentor department heads and senior engineers.
- Build strong technical capabilities within the plant team.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage plant utilities including compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling systems, power distribution, and water treatment systems.
- Ensure uninterrupted and efficient supply of utilities to production lines.
- Optimize energy consumption and reduce utility costs.
- Oversee maintenance and reliability of all utility systems.
Major Accountabilities
- Ensure achievement of production, quality, cost, delivery, and efficiency targets across rigid and flexible manufacturing operations.
- Provide technical leadership for production, engineering, maintenance, and utilities to ensure smooth plant performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve OEE.
- Ensure reliable operation of equipment and utilities with minimal downtime.
- Maintain compliance with quality standards, ISO requirements, and customer specifications.
- Enforce HSE standards and promote a strong safety culture across the plant.
- Control operational costs including energy, materials, maintenance, and utilities.
- Support strategic planning, capacity expansion, and capital projects.
Job Requirements:
Educational Qualifications
- University degree in Engineering, or other management discipline.
- MBA or equivalent post-graduate qualification from an internationally recognised business school.
Experience
- 12+ years of relevant experience at the senior management level
- 5+ years of general management experience with profit and loss accountability for an entire business or major business unit.
Professional Knowledge
- Knowledge of strategic planning processes.
- Knowledge of financial planning and capital management philosophy and processes.
- Knowledge of employee motivation philosophy and theory.
- Strong change management skills.
- Ability to drive organizational climate/culture.
