Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for reviewing, coordinating, supervising, and managing all mechanical building services, including HVAC systems, air conditioning units, plumbing, firefighting, and drainage systems, for building construction projects.
The role includes design review, technical coordination, site supervision, quality control, contractor management, and ensuring that all mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Design & Drawing Review:
- Review HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and drainage system drawings submitted by designers and consultants
- Verify compliance of drawings with project specifications, local authority regulations, and applicable standards.
- Identify design conflicts, technical issues, and constructability concerns before execution.
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, and other project disciplines to resolve clashes and discrepancies.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical submissions.
- Ensure all drawings are coordinated with actual site conditions and project requirements.
Site Supervision & Execution:
- Supervise all mechanical installation activities at the site related to:
- HVAC systems
- Plumbing systems
- Firefighting systems
- Drainage and sewage systems
- Monitor site progress and ensure works are executed in accordance with the approved drawings and specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections to verify quality and compliance with safety standards.
- Coordinate daily with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and project teams.
- Ensure installations are completed within the project schedule and quality requirements.
- Follow-up testing, commissioning, flushing, pressure testing, and system handover activities.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure all works comply with:
- Approved shop drawings
- Project specifications
- Applicable codes and standards
- Health & Safety requirements
- Review inspection requests and QA/QC documentation.
- Prepare snag lists and monitor corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting procedures are maintained.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare technical reports, progress reports, and site observation reports.
- Maintain records of inspections, RFIs, approvals, and material submissions.
- Provide regular updates to management regarding project progress and technical matters.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and final handover documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/civil engineering.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems for building construction projects.
- Strong experience in:
- HVAC systems
- Plumbing systems
- Firefighting systems
- Drainage systems
- Experience in commercial, residential, and high-rise building projects preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems and construction practices.
- Ability to review and coordinate technical drawings.
- Familiarity with local regulations and international standards.
- Experience with testing & commissioning procedures.
- Proficient in: AutoCAD& MS Office.
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and supervision skills.
- Excellent coordination and communication abilities.
- Problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple site activities.
- Strong organizational and reporting skills
